How to use it

From inputs to a useful decision

  1. Enter your listed rate, weekly session count, and lesson length.
  2. Add the platform deduction, preparation time, and monthly expenses.
  3. Review net monthly income, annual income, and effective pay per working hour.

Calculation method

The formula

Net earnings = lesson revenue - platform fees - business expenses. Effective hourly earnings also include preparation time.

Example

A $40 listed rate is not a $40 effective rate when a platform deducts a fee and each lesson requires unpaid preparation.

Questions

Tutor Earnings Calculator FAQ

Does net income include income tax?

No. This tool shows earnings after platform fees and entered business expenses but before personal income tax.

Why include preparation time?

Preparation and follow-up increase the real time spent earning each lesson fee, which can materially reduce the effective hourly rate.

How are monthly figures calculated?

Annual totals use your selected working weeks, and monthly results divide those annual totals by 12.
